Biometrics Firm iiDENTIFii Wins The Tech Innovator In Africa Awards by KPMG

South Africa’s biometrics and identity authentication firm iiDENTIFii has emerged as the winner of the Tech Innovator in Africa awards organized by KPMG Private Enterprise.

The competition is in its second year following a successful inaugural run last year.

KPMG invited innovators across the continent to showcase technology breakthroughs that transform and revolutionize businesses in diverse industries.

The competition also aimed at identifying businesses truly leading the pack and highlighting them at a global event taking place in Lisbon Portugal in November this year.

“Africa is ripe with innovation and this competition truly showcases Africa’s leading tech innovators on a local and global scale – demonstrating the impact that the fastest-growing tech innovators are having across the globe.” said Alan Barr, Partner and Head of Private Enterprise at KPMG.

Barr said that the competition which opened in February attracted 159 applications from the continent which was nearly double the number of applications received last year.

“This demonstrates not only the growing tech innovation in Africa but indicates the appetite for African tech businesses to be recognized and scale their operations for the greater good of the continent and its people,”  he said.

From a round of 10 innovations that sailed through to the semi-finals, iiDENTIFii emerged the winner and was hailed for its innovation that has the capability to disrupt its space.

The company which has its headquarters in Cape Town, South Africa provides biometrics and facial recognition solutions.

“Our team has worked hard to make innovation a consistent thread throughout the business, and we are grateful for KPMG’s commitment to tech trailblazers,”  said Lance Fanaroff, Co-Founder and Chief Strategy Officer of iiDENTIFii.

The program received 159 applications from across Africa, double the number of applications received for the same period in 2021.

The global competition is made up of 20 countries across key economies globally and while each region runs its own competition, the global platform allows for various players across the world to pitch their businesses products and services and be recognized for leading tech innovation and business model excellence, judged by a panel of local and global industry experts.
