How to Get Cleared from CRB in Kenya – CRB Clearance Certificate

Credit Reference Bureau (CRB) is a company licensed by the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) to collect credit information from companies and individuals.

Getting a clearance from CRB will allow individuals to improve their creditworthiness and increase their chance of being granted a loan by any lender.

A clearance certificate is issued upon request, either when requested by financial institution, job application, cross-border travel or during a tender process among others.

If you pay the loan you had defaulted plus other fines, the financial institution that submitted your name to CRB will ask their CRB agency to clear your name. This might take 1 to 3 days.

Lenders will obtain your credit report and use this repayment information to determine if they will issue you with a loan.

There are 3 licensed CRB firms in Kenya including; CreditInfo CRB, Metropol CRB and Transunion Kenya CRB

How to Get Cleared from CRB from Metropol CRB

Go to MPesa menu on your phone and send Kshs 50 via the Metropol Paybill number, which is 220338
Input your ID as the account number
An SMS with a unique pin, reference number, and a special link that to be followed to access the Metropol service will be sent to your phone.
Use the USSD code *433# to check your status.
Key in your pin, and you will receive an SMS on the listing status after a few minutes.

Alternatively, you can go to Google Playstore and download the Metropol app from Playstore. Register, log in, make payment and request to view your listing status using the app.

How to get CRB Clearance from TransUnion Africa

Text your full names to 21272 or 21 CRB. Note: SMS Charges cost Ksh 19. Download the TransUnion Nipashe app to save on SMS charges
Register by paying a one-off payment of Ksh 50 to PayBill number 212121 and use your National ID as account number
Then pay Ksh 2,200, then email your Mpesa/Airtel transaction details to cert@transunion.co.ke and you will be emailed back the clearance certificate

How to get CRB Clearance Creditinfo Kenya

Follow the instructions on their website and fill out the subsequent forms thereof.

If you have any outstanding loans you will need to clear them in order to get a CRB clearance certificate. If you are not able to clear the loans at the time you will just have to get a credit status certificate.
