Sportpesa office raided by police & BCLB

Police officers and officials from Betting Control and Licensing Board (BLCB) on Wednesday evening raided SportPesa offices in Nairobi.

The betting firm issued a statement denouncing the raid accusing the betting regulator of violating the court order which allowed Milestone Gaming Ltd to trade as SportPesa brand.

SportPesa said the agents had failed to produce either a court order or warrant supporting their invasive manoeuvre, it termed the raid as illegal and intimidation of its management, employees and customers, despite a court order obtained early this month, stopping BCLB from interfering with its operations.

“Regrettably, the said illegal conduct by BCLB in conjunction with other parties, falls into a pattern of intimidation and harassment targeted at Milestone Games Limited, its management, employees and customers,” the company said through lawyer Robert Macharia.

The company now wants to sue both the BCLB and the Interior Ministry for disregarding a Nairobi High Court order telling the BCLB to stand down until a January 25, 2021 hearing.
