The High Court on Wednesday has nullified the decision by the state to roll out Huduma Namba cards, ruling that it was illegal.
The court ruling by Justice Jairus Ng’aah said that the process is illegal because the government did not conduct a data protection impact assessment ahead of the launch.
“An order is hereby issued to bring into this honourable court to quash the government decision of November 18 2020 to roll out Huduma cards for being unlawful,” he said.
The Government started issuing the cards in December last year, after stating that the current National Identification Cards would cease being valid in December this year.
The judge has moreover ordered the government to carry out the impact assessment before rolling out the cards.
