Facebook has rebranded its company name to Meta, making it a corporate identity of the social networking parent company behind Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Oculus moving forward.
According to the CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Meta’s focus will be to bring the metaverse to life and help people connect, find communities and grow businesses.
He explained that the metaverse will feel like a hybrid of today’s online social experiences, sometimes expanded into three dimensions or projected into the physical world.
“It will allow people across the globe to share immersive experiences with other people even when they can’t be together — and do things together that they couldn’t do in the physical world. It’s the next evolution in a long line of social technologies, and it’s ushering in a new chapter for the company,” Zuckerberg said.
Zuckerberg said he expects the metaverse to reach a billion people within the next decade.
