TikTok, earlier this year, changed the default privacy and safety settings for all registered accounts ages 13-15 to private.
According to the social media company, they want younger users to be able to make informed choices about what and with whom they choose to share, which includes whether they want to open their account to public views.
How to Enable TikTok Privacy and Safety Settings
You can apply different privacy settings to each video you share, even if you have your account set to “Public”. You can also change your settings later if you have changed your mind.
There are 4 possible video view settings:
- Public (for public accounts): Visible to everyone
- Followers (for private accounts) : Visible to followers
- Friends: Visible to friends only
- Private: Visible to me only
How To change video view settings for an existing video on TikTok
- Go to the video.
- Tap … , located on the top right corner.
- Go to Privacy settings > Who can view this video.
- Choose a privacy setting.

- On the post page, tap Who can view this video.
- Choose a privacy setting.
- Save settings
To view the save settings on your videos:
- Go to Me.
- Tap … to open your settings.
- Go to Privacy.
- Tap Allow your videos to be downloaded.
- Turn the feature On or Off.
How to update settings on who can view your liked videos
- Go to your profile by tapping Me.
- Tap …, located on the top right corner.
- Tap Privacy > Who can view your liked videos.
- Choose a privacy setting.
How to filter Comments on TikTok
To change your default video comment settings:
- Go to Me.
- Tap …
- Go to Privacy.
- Tap Who can comment on your videos.
- Chose a comment setting.
- When posting a new video, you can choose to Allow comments from the posting page.
How to change TikTok comment settings for a single video:
- Go to the video.
- Tap … .
- Go to Privacy settings.
- Turn Allow comments on or off.
- You can also use tools to delete certain comments on your videos.
How To filter all comments on TikTok
- Go to Me.
- Tap …, located on the top right corner.
- Select Privacy > Comment filters.
- Turn on Filter all comments.
- If you select Filter all comments, comments will be hidden unless you approve them.
