TikTok launches #WomenOfNow to celebrate International Women’s Day

Tiktok launches women of now

TikTok is celebrating International Women’s Day with the launch of #WomenofNow hashtag challenge to inspire and celebrate the diverse and inclusive female community on TikTok.

This incredible community is made up of women who are leading the way in various spheres including fashion, sport, education, media, arts and culture, tech and more.

The #WomenofNow campaign, which runs until the end of March, encourages TikTok users to create content that celebrates the unique qualities that make them, or a woman in their lives, remarkable.

Adding fun and creativity to the campaign, special activities have been lined up for everyone to enjoy in-app throughout the month. These include various hashtag challenges (#WomeninFashion#WomeninComedy#WomeninSport and #WomenofTikTok), playlists featuring sounds by iconic female musicians and an International Women’s Day quiz.

Boniswa Sidwaba, TikTok Content Operations Manager, Africa, said that International Women’s Day is an opportunity to highlight the platform’s commitment to supporting women and their creativity.

TikTok does this by providing its female community with a unique and safe space to share their authentic selves with like-minded women while having fun.

“Today is a special moment to acknowledge the achievements of women globally. At TikTok, we are committed to empowering women, helping them to harness the power of creativity, express their most authentic selves and own their narrative.”

TikTok wants to recognise the incredible women on the platform who use their creativity, humour and overall strength to inspire and support others.

A special shout-out goes to Rexxie for sharing inspiring videos about loving her natural hair and even sharing tips to make the best out of a bad hair day. There is also Shallot_wendy, a Standard Gauge Railway train driver scaling the heights in a male-dominated field, while Azz_iadRequin45 and Officiallaura are all using the platform to spread positive vibes and showing that life should always be full of fun.

TikTok would like to also celebrate the following creators who are among the most influential women on TikTok in Kenya. These women showcase the meaningful role played by modern females in everyday life:

  1. Cindyk003: Woman inspiring others to be confident
  2. Dzireo: Renowned make-up artist
  3. martinaglez_: A Dancing Queen
  4. Missnyawi: Celebrates body positivity
